06 Ribbon Settings

Welcome to this demonstration on Bonus Tools - Ribbon Settings.

  1. Ribbon Settings allows you to give the Ribbon a Custom name to suit you or your company and View and change the Ribbon Settings by selecting the tools you want to see on the Ribbon and re-order them to suit you or your company.
  2. To run the tool, navigate to the Bonus Tools Tab, click on the drop down below About and select Ribbon Settings.

  4. The Ribbon Settings dialog box will appear.

  6. Along the top of the dialog select:
    1. Select Enable Window Watcher, if you would like to restrict access to particular Revit windows. See Window Watcher for settings.

    3. Select Enable Warnings Tracker, if you would like to track the warning that you create. See Window Watcher for settings.

    5. Select Enable Family Tracker, if you would like to track the Family insertion and modification, by dates and user. See Family Tracker for instructions.

    7. De-select Display Startup Warnings, if you would like to track the Family insertion and modification, by dates and user. See Family Tracker for instructions.

  7. You can specify you Companies Help File, which will work in with 54 Help File.

    Note: By default this will point to the Kiwi Codes Help file.

  9. At the bottom left of the dialog, you can specify the location of custom images to replace the Bonus Tools Icon on the About Button.

    1. Select a location by Clicking on the button at the end of the Custom Ribbon image location text box.

    3. Navigate to and select a folder.

    5. This folder must contain two .png files called and at the specified size:
      1. BTIcon 16x16.png (this file must be 16x16)
      2. BTIcon 32x32.png (this file must be 16x16)
  11. The centre of the dialog contains information about the Ribbon and Panel layouts.

  13. The first column, Tools, list all Tools that are not on a Ribbon Panel.
  14. The second column, Ribbons, list all Ribbons, Panels and Tools.
  15. You can configure as many Ribbons and Panels as you would like.
  16. Configuring Ribbons.
    1. You can Add, Delete and Rename Ribbons.

    3. To Add a Ribbon.
      1. Click Add Ribbon.
      2. A New Ribbon will be added to the base of the list.

      4. To Rename a Ribbon.
        1. Select the Ribbon.

        3. Click Rename Ribbon.
        4. A Rename dialog will appear.

        6. Enter the new name and click Ok.

      5. Note: If you enter a Ribbon name that is already used in Revit, Bonus Tools will check on load and rename the Bonus Tools Ribbon.

      6. To Delete a Ribbon.
        1. Select the Ribbon.

        3. And Click Delete Ribbon.
        4. Note: Deleting a Ribbon will delete the Panels associated to it.

        5. All the Bonus Tools – Tools that were associated to the deleted Ribbon are now in the Tools column.

    4. Configuring Panels.
      1. You can Add, Delete and Rename Panels.

      3. To Add a Panel.
        1. Select the parent Ribbon.

        3. Click Add Panel.
        4. A New Panel will be added to the selected Ribbon.

      4. To Rename a Panel.
        1. Select the Panel.

        3. Click Rename Panel.
        4. A Rename dialog will appear.

        6. Enter the new name and click Ok.

      5. To Delete a Panel.
        1. Select the Panel.

        3. And Click Delete Panel.
        4. All the Bonus Tools – Tools that were associated to the deleted Panel are now in the Tools column.

    5. Adding Bonus Tools – Tools to a Panel.
      1. Select a Tool from the Tools column.

      3. And drag it to the desired Panel.

        Note: The newly added Tools is Green.

    6. Removing Bonus Tools – Tools from a Panel.
      1. Select a Tool on a Panel from the Ribbons column.

      3. And drag it to the Tools column.
      4. Note: The is removed.

    7. Sort Ribbons, Panels and Tools by using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

      1. Select the Ribbon, Panel or Tools.

      3. Select Move Up or Down.

      5. Continue clicking Move Up or Down until the Ribbon, Panel or Tool is in position.
    9. Reset Defaults.
      1. Reset will Reset the Ribbons to a default state.

      3. Click Reset Defaults.

      5. The Ribbons have been restored.

    10. At any point Collapse All or Expand All, Ribbons, Panels and Tools.

    12. Once finished making changes to Ribbon Settings, Click Ok.
    13. You will be prompt that the changes will take effect next time you restart Revit.
