75 Family Type Renamer

Welcome to this demonstration on Bonus Tools – 75 Family Type Renamer. This tool allows you to Rename Family and Type names to comply with Standards.

  1. To run the tool, navigate to the Bonus Tools Tab and select Family Type Renamer.

  3. The Family Type Renamer dialog will appear.

  5. Select Export to export Family and Type Name to excel.
  6. Select Import to import a previously exported and modified excel file.
  7. Export:
    1. Select Export and click Ok.
    2. The Export Family Type dialog will appear.

      Note: The dialog by default when opened will display all Categories with found Families in the grid, at the bottom right is the total Category count in the grid. Within grid you can see the Level ID, the Category Name, and Select. You can sort the grid by clicking any column header.

    4. Select the Categories you would like to export to excel:
      1. To select the Categories you can either; tick the check boxes individually or highlight the rows using standard mouse drag and control key operations and click Select Selected button.
      2. Note: the Total selected is updating

      3. or click Select All button to select all Categories in the grid
      4. or click Select None button to deselect all Categories.

    5. Click Export.
    6. Any Families of the selected categories will be exported to excel and another dialog will show confirming the number of Elements that have been exported.

    8. Excel will have opened.
    9. For each Category selected, there will be a tab within excel.
    10. Within each tab:
      1. The first row with show the Category.
      2. The second row will show the Element Id, Existing Family Name, Existing Family Type, New Family Name and New Type Name.
      3. From row 3 and below are any families exported.
    11. Modify the New Family Name and New Type Name columns as desired.
    12. Save the excel file.
  8. Import:
    1. Select Import and click Ok.
    2. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to search for an Excel file for Import.
    3. The Import Family Type dialog will appear.

      Note: The dialog by default when opened will display all Tabs (Categories) with found within the excel file in the grid, at the bottom right is the total Category count in the grid. Within grid you can see the Tab Name, and Select. You can sort the grid by clicking any column header.

    5. Select the Categories you would like to rename from excel:
      1. To select the Categories you can either; tick the check boxes individually or highlight the rows using standard mouse drag and control key operations and click Select Selected button Note: the Total selected is updating
      2. or click Select All button to select all Categories in the grid
      3. or click Select None button to deselect all Categories.

    6. Click Import.
    7. A dialog will appear confirming the Categories and Family and Type Names that have been updated.

  9. You will also see a dialog which confirms the modifications.

    1. When complete you can close the dialogs and go to the Project Browser to view the changes.
